Truth!

In my last post I stated that God’s word is the only source of truth. You may think, “That book was written thousands of years ago, you can’t apply it to our lives now, how can you believe that?’’ It was only written by men.”   Yes, the book was written by men thousands of years ago but that does not disqualify it from being true. “Well, it was just written by ordinary men, what if they were just making it up?”

He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. – John 3:18

For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.  But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.” – John 3:20-21

Would ordinary men write a book that would so easily convict them of being guilty sinners before a Holy God?

The Apostle Paul wrote almost half of the New Testament. Paul was a Jew, a Pharisee, of a very high rank and well studied in the Old Testament. He persecuted Christians and killed many of them, but God showed him his evil heart and he became a Christian. Only a man that truly was chosen by God Himself could have written and done what Paul endured. He endured imprisonment, starvation, stoned and left for dead.

Then Paul answered, “What do you mean by weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” – Acts 21:13

Paul the former murderer of Christians eventually did die for his faith.

I can’t make anyone believe the bible, we have been taught many things but we have to know why we believe them. I believe God’s word because that is where I put my hope and trust in God who is eternal.

So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. – Romans 10:17

The word of God exposes the sin in the human heart and causes them to believe, it is never through the wisdom of man, your belief must be planted in you by God.

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. – Hebrews 4:12

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.  For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God –   1Corinthians1:17-18

  1. My dear Grace,

You are correct that the Bible is Truth. A lot of people ask the question you have brought up. How do I know that the Bible is not just a collection of “camp fire” stories handed down from generation to generation? The Bible (all of it) is Truth from God as men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. The Bible is breathed by the Holy Spirit. Here is Truth:

2 Timothy 3:16 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

    16 All Scripture is [a]inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for [b]training in righteousness;

John 16:12-13 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

12 “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

Mark 13:11 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

11 When they [a]arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but it is the Holy Spirit.

13 For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.

The Holy Spirit is gifted to a Christian through God’s grace. It is the Holy Spirit that opens the Christian’s heart to believe God’s Truth. Then the beauty of being a child of God begins with the acceptance of Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, who came freely to live on earth; to teach, to be tempted and to be the perfectly sinless, sacrificial lamb to save the sinners who believe in Him.

    I love you very much.
